Throughout the year we will look at many of the dilemmas that individuals face when making investment decisions. The goal of this club is for each participant to engage in meaningful discussions regarding the complex world of investing. You are encouraged to think outside the box and question the status quo.
Over the course of the year, we will follow the stock market, interest rates, and other relevant indices. We will participate in an investment challenge and listen to guest speakers. Most importantly, each participant will be expected to read about the world of investing on a consistent basis. Between the internet, periodicals, and the many investment books in circulation, there is a wealth of information out there just waiting for you to discover and critique.
Some investing topics that we will discuss are as follows:
Would you rather know the future direction of a particular stock or the general market?
Why do some investments generate higher returns (and sometimes larger losses) than others?
What should I do if someone I trust gives me a tip that is guaranteed to make me money?
What caused the financial meltdown in the fall of 2008?
Is participating in the investment club going to make me a lot of money? Will I at least make more money than my friend that uses this time to eat pizza?
These questions and many others will be answered this year. Thank you for signing up and I look forward to an exciting year.
